How to Negotiate Buying a Used Car... Don't Pay Too Much!

Negotiating for a used car can be a little tricky. You must know how to haggle for the best used car price. Negotiating a Good Used Car, Used Truck or Used SUV Deal is the same as negotiating a New Car Deal! You can use the same tactics and strategies, but keep in mind that negotiating the price on a used car is different than a new car because with a used vehicle you have no way of knowing for sure how much the dealer has invested in it! Normally the dear has about trade in value if not a little less invested, so you may have a bit more wiggle room than you think.

Research used car values at Kelly Blue Book, NADA and the Auto Trader. When negotiating on buying a used car figures on settling on a price somewhere between retail and trade-in allowance.

Make your initial offer $500 under the trade in amount and go from there.

Here is the number one myth when buying from a dealer ship.

If you say you are going to buy that new used car for cash you will get a discount or better deal…. WRONG!

If you can pay cash for a new car that is the best way to do it, but keep it to yourself until you close the deal. Or else you could end up paying more. The car dealerships game is to make as much money off you as possible and it if you state up front that you are going to pay cash, they know right from the get go that the money they would have made issuing you a loan is gone. Keep it to yourself until after you've agreed on a price on your new car.

Good luck on your purchase.
